Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and Montreal is a city that takes its breakfast and brunch quite seriously. Montreal’s brunch culture is one of the most unique in the world. People here can’t for the weekend so that they can try a new breakfast spot. Whether you’re craving greasy comfort foods, a refined high-class dish, or just a quick coffee and croissant, Montreal has some excellent breakfast spots that are still open for takeout and delivery despite the difficult times.
1. L’Oeufrier
L’Oeufrier is the proud creator of the breakfast poutine! This (legendary) Montreal franchise has a large menu (150 items!) of creative and delicious breakfast plates for every taste and diet. One of the best options currently for fast, delicious, and well-packaged breakfast delivery. A restaurant that really took their takeout and delivery game to the next level.
2. Toi, Moi et Café
Toi, Moi et Café is another locally Montreal owned chain with refined and delicious breakfast food. In normal times it is a place with a laid back, quaint cafe ambiance, where you can go to have an amazing latté and great conversations. These days they offer conveniently packaged breakfast and brunch takeout options at most of their locations.
3. L’Avenue (Rue Notre Dame)
L’Avenue Rue Notre Dame is right up the street from the Atwater Market and has been a Montreal breakfast staple for many years. This restaurant is known for its eccentric and imaginative takes on classic brunch food such as their caramelized apple, bacon, and cheddar “American” pancakes and their Mexican-inspired Michoacán eggs benedict. Unlike L’Oeufrier and Toi, Moi et Café, which has grown to become quite large chains, L’Avenue has kept its small, unique feeling with its fun atmosphere and graffiti-scrawled walls.
4. Olive + Gourmando
Olive + Gourmando is a cafe, restaurant, and bakery trio with a small and refined menu appropriate for omnivores, vegetarians, and vegans alike. Mostly featuring sandwiches, salads, drinks, and desserts, Olive + Gourmando prepares hearty, healthy comfort food with an inventive twist. Olive + Gourmando has perfected their menu, so you know that no matter what you are craving, it’ll be delicious. Their two decades of experience and adventures have actually led them to create an Olive + Gourmando cookbook, so you can learn how to recreate some of your favorites at home. However, they have kept some items secret that you will have to visit the restaurant downtown to try.
5. Beauty’s
Ask any local; you can’t go wrong with Beauty’s classic Montreal breakfast dishes. Located on Mont-Royal West, Beauty’s opened its doors in 1942 and has kept the retro 1942’s decor and atmosphere. Try their trademark Mish-Mash, which is an omelet with salami, green pepper, fried onions, hot-dog, and a side of Beauty’s classic home fries and a bagel. Otherwise, their menu features just about every classic brunch food, including just about every way you can cook an egg, pancakes, sandwiches, burgers, waffles, french toast, and more. Remember to come with an appetite since Beauty’s is known for its generous plate sizes.
